Party leaders praised commendable performance of the newspaper

Miguel Diaz- Canel Bermudez, member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party, and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, sent a certificate of recognition to Escambray Newspaper, in Sancti Spiritus, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its foundation on January 4th 1979.

The testimonial, handed by Jose Ramon Monteagudo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in the territory, explains itself: “For the journalistic exercise and influence in the economic and social development of Sancti Spiritus along three and half decades, which makes it a reference for our press”.

Throughout all these years, Escambray has been quite successful, evidenced in various awards, which include the Machete Replica of Maximo Gomez, granted in 2005 by the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces; the Machete Replica of Serafin Sanchez Valdivia, conceded in 2004 by the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power, and the Che Guevara Flag: 40 years of victory, given by the Cuban Workers Federation (this is the only media outlet in the country that holds it).

With the purpose of celebrating the three and a half decades of work, the members of the weekly have developed a program of activities, including meetings for professional training, tribute to founders, the presentation of a comprehensive redesign of its pages and the contest 35th Anniversary of Escambray.

When presenting the acknowledgement, the Party leadership in Sancti Spiritus alluded to the commendable performance of the newspaper while disseminating the decisions of the Sixth Congress and the First National Conference of this organization, and the work in order to contribute to the social and cultural development of Sancti Spiritus.
