As established by ONEI in its methodological definition, a tourist is «a visitor traveling to a country other than that in which he has his habitual residence, who stays at least one night, but no more than a year, whose major motivation for the visit is not to engage in a remunerated activity in the visited country».  In these three months, 1,116,113 tourists arrived in Cuba.

A hiker is «that visitor traveling to a country other than that in which he has his habitual residence, for a period less than 24 hours, not including overnight stays in the visited country and whose main purpose of the visit is not to engage in an activity which is remunerated in the visited country».

The publication Turismo. Llegada de visitantes internacionales. (Tourism. Arrival of international visitors), available at www.onei.cu, is prepared by the specialists of ONEI’s Center for the Management of Economic, Environmental, and Social Information.  According to the authors, «it aims to show the preliminary results of the key indicators that measure the entry of visitors to the country».

The report includes «the behaviour of the arrival of visitors by months, by years, as well as the major source countries». The «source of information used comes from the figures issued by the Cuban Immigration Office, during January-March, 2015».

Canada remains as the major client for the Cuba tourist destination.  551 773 Canadians came to the between January and March, this year.  They were followed by the Germans (52 904), the French (44 319), the English (43 222), and the Italian (39 177).
