Several organizations of solidarity with Cuba in Miami, Florida, called people to attend a rally next Sunday to support the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons since 1998.

Signatories of the call include the Antonio Maceo Brigade, the Jose Marti Alliance, the Jose Marti Association and the Bolivarian Club of Miami.

The main topic of the gathering, to be held at the Embassy Hotel’s Key Biscayne Hall, will be the extraordinary appeal process of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, a petition that is in the hands of Judge Joan Lenard of the Federal District Court of South Florida.

The meeting will also deal with the supervised release of Rene Gonzalez, another member of the group internationally known as The Cuban Five, also pending a decision of this court about the possibility to travel to visit his brother, Lawyer Roberto Gonzalez Sehwerert, who is seriously ill in Cuba.

“For a fundamental matter of human solidarity, we can never fail to demand justice for those men, whose task was to protect innocent people from terrorism,” says the call undersigned by the Jose Marti Alliance.

This week, Roberto was awarded the title of honorary member of the National Lawyers Guild, the largest, oldest legal organization in the United States, in recognition of his contribution as a human rights champion and above all for his professional efforts in the case of The Cuban Five.

Roberto has repeatedly denounced the injustice committed in the United States against Gerardo, Antonio, Ramon, Fernando and Rene, demanding a new, impartial trial for them.
